The story of José Fortunato Júnior and his wife, Antónia Soares Fortunato, is one of enduring passion and devotion to the art of Port wine. In 1941, they acquired Quinta da Devesa, establishing a distinguished family estate that, to this day, remains proudly independent and dedicated to producing wines of exceptional character and refinement.
Quinta da Devesa is a property of remarkable heritage. In 1844, the celebrated Barão de Forrester recognized its significance by including it in the very first map of the Douro Demarcated Region. Yet its most defining era began in 1941, when the Fortunato family brought new vision and meticulous craftsmanship to the estate, elevating it into a benchmark for fine Port wine. Over the decades, this pursuit of excellence naturally extended to the production of elegant DOC Douro still wines, enriching the estate’s portfolio while preserving its legacy of authenticity, precision, and timeless sophistication.

Grapes: Old Vines with more than 20 traditional grape varieties of the region
Made from traditional white grapes picked from a single vineyard in the Baixo Cargo sub region of the Douro Valley in same year of the moon landing! Which is probably why it tastes out of this world! Colheitas are dated Tawnies from one single harvest. The minimum age requirement is 7 years, but the tradition at Quinta da Devesa is to age several more years before bottling. The wine ages at the cellars in ‘balseiros’, ‘tonéis’ or 550l casks. Produced and aged in Quinta da Devesa for 50 years, this Colheita Port was bottled in 2018.
