Deep purple with a ruby red rim, this wine opens with a refined and complex nose of wild strawberry, cassis, raspberry and ripe plum, lifted by elegant floral notes, hints of liquorice and a whisper of rock rose. On the palate it is voluptuous yet structured, with tense, linear tannins underpinning clean, crisp flavours of damsons and plums that carry through to a long, persistent finish. A wonderful expression of Taylor's LBV — poised, slightly understated, and executed with superb finesse.
Taylor’s were pioneers of the LBV category, developed to satisfy the demand for a high quality ready-to-drink alternative to Vintage Port for everyday consumption. Unlike Vintage Port, which is bottled after only two years in wood and ages in bottle, LBV is bottled after four to six years and is ready to drink when bottled.
Taylor’s continues to lead the LBV category of Port worldwide, in spite of the fact that many other shippers now also produce an LBV. The wines used to blend Taylor’s LBV were drawn from a reserve of some of the best full bodied red Ports, produced at the 2015 harvest, from grapes grown on Taylor’s own vineyards and on other top properties in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior areas.

This port is delicious with foie gras, certain cheeses (Gorgonzola, Roquefort), as an aperitif or as dessert wine
Great with walnuts, blue veined and other richly flavoured cheeses are excellent accompaniments to vintage port; so too are dried fruits such as apricots or figs.

The 2020 vintage is one of the most remarkable in recent Douro Valley history — a season defined by extraordinarily low yields and sugar levels comparable only to the legendary 1820 and 2009 harvests. The season began promisingly, with 310mm of rainfall recorded at Pinhão during November and December 2019, building strong groundwater reserves. The remaining dormant period was dry and warm, with elevated minimum temperatures triggering the earliest budburst in 18 years, recorded at Pinhão on 3 March.
The four-month growing period maintained warm temperatures, with regular rainfall in March and April securing sufficient water reserves for the months ahead. Flowering in the A-Grade vineyards was first recorded on 4 May, confirming the advanced development of the vines. Véraison arrived early on 7 July, in what became the hottest July since records began in 1931 — the average temperature reaching 28.19°C, significantly above the 2005–2019 average of 24.7°C. August brought milder conditions, and by mid-August the vine canopies were remarkably well preserved.
The combination of low yields and strong winter water reserves drove a rapid ripening rate. A rainfall of 21mm between 17 and 20 August accelerated the process further, producing a visible improvement in grape condition by the end of the month — most notably in the Touriga Francesa. Picking at Quinta de Vargellas began on 5 September, marking the start of a harvest that will be remembered alongside the great vintages of the Douro.
