Grapes: 100% Sercial
Sercial is traditionally the white variety used for the driest Madeira style. So a sercial is always dry! This means that alcohol is only added at the very end of the fermentation, when almost all sugars have been fermented. The late maturing breed is also known as "Esgana Cão" (dog stranger) because of its extremely high acidity in its youth. Because of the almost undrinkable acidity, sercial usually ripens for a long time. Sercial comes from the highest vineyards in the south, at about 600-800m or in the cooler North. The Sercial may be a mutant of the German Riesling

This bottling is the result of blending two 1994 Sercial wines, each with distinct origins despite sharing the same origin. Both were produced using continuous pressing. The Sercial 1994 MEF was fermented entirely in barrels, fortified in an extra-dry state, and aged for 31 years in old barrels at the MEF warehouse, located by the Seixal sea, benefiting from the maritime influence. The Sercial 1994 VB fermented in tanks, with fermentation stopped at 0.5 Baumé. From late 1994 to the present, it has aged in old French oak barrels at the Barbeito warehouses, gaining depth and structure. For this blend, 225 liters of the MEF wine were combined with 150 liters of the VB wine, each bringing out the best in itself to create a very fine wine with fresh and striking acidity. In February 2025, 500 units were bottled, all numbered.

Store & Serve
Always keep a Madeira wine upright.
Madeira's acids are so strong that they attack the cork if the bottle is stored horizontally
Serving: 14 - 16 °C

Madeira is a wine that has been aged for several years in an oxidative environment, after which it is bottled in a reductive environment. It is therefore useful to open the bottles a few hours in advance. The bottles can then be stored almost indefinitely, since the air no longer has any influence on Madeira wines. In fact, after months - if still some remain, the wine tastes better than when you open the bottle.
