The Vale D. Maria Douro Superior has a brilliant and lively ruby color. The typical red fruits of the Superior Douro are incredibly present on the nose, where the aromas of blackberries, strawberries and black cherries stand out, making this wine very complex and intense. The vanilla notes combine perfectly to enhance the velvety texture of this wine which slowly ends with a long and deeply fresh finish. In short, as a Douro wine should be!
Food pairing
A delicious wine ideal for dishes with red roasted and grilled meats

After the manual harvest at Quinta Vale do Sabor, the grapes are destemmed . Half of the batch is foot -trodden in granite lagares and then fermented in stainless steel vats . The remaining batch is entirely fermented in stainless steel vats for 10 to 15 days at controlled temperatures between 22ºC and 27ºC . After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation takes place . Following this, 60 % of the wine ages in stainless steel vats, and the remaining 40 % in large wooden casks and French oak barrels for 12months.

92/100 - Andreas Larsson - Tasted Tasted: Dec 2025
Medium deep garnet towards ruby on the rim. Fine perfume with wild berries, violet, rose, sweet spices, gingerbread, mild oak and toast underneath. The palate combines density and freshness with good layers, fine extract in terms of tannin, grainy, still youthful but no hard edges, digest red fruit layered with gingerbread spice and a mild hint of oak, a bit more warmth towards the finish, but good drinkability and freshness leading to a long, vigorous finish.
