Grapes: Petit Verdot 50%, Touriga Nacional 40% & Alicante Bouschet 10%
For this wine, we select the finest grapes from Herdade do Freixo, harvested at their perfect stage of ripeness, achieving a natural harmony between sugar, acidity, and flavor. The Petit Verdot grapes, sourced from our oldest north-facing vineyard, lend the blend a distinctive freshness and elegance.
After being hand-harvested into 20 kg boxes, each variety is vinified separately. The entire process unfolds by gravity into frusto-conical fermentation tanks, with temperature control and gentle mechanical treading two to three times per day. Following fermentation, the wine ages for 14 months in new 500 L French oak barrels with a light toast to preserve the most delicate fruit notes, and then matures in bottle for over three years.
Nestled between Évora and the Serra d’Ossa in the Alentejo region, thirteen hectares of sustainably farmed land host a harmonious balance of vineyards, grazing fields, cork oaks, and millennia-old olive trees. This rich ecosystem, home to rare species like the black stork, provides an exceptional natural setting. At 450 meters in altitude, within this distinctive terroir, winemaker Pedro Vasconcelos e Sousa crafts some of the area’s most remarkable wines in an underground cellar.
